It was such a beautiful design and truly complimented the gorgeous flowers and colors in the bouquet which consisted of purple callas, orchids, green hydrangeas, white and purple roses with green ferns and leaves.

Teresa and Jay had a beach themed wedding and the bouquet had silver starfish added. I thought it would be fun to carry that theme into the paintings and add the starfish. This painting is a 16 x 20 for the bride and groom.

Alice and Mick's theme was "Alice & Mick's Wedding in Wonderland"

At the reception here and there was a red rose from the Alice in Wonderland theme.


It was a fairytale wedding with soft blush, white and pink roses with white peonies.

I couldn't resist having that rabbit and a red rose somewhere in the painting.

This is a photo of the bridal flowers just before I set them all in to a press to dry for 6 - 8 weeks.

This 24 x 36 painting was created for the parents of the bride. The background burgundy color was taken from the beautiful wedding invitations.

The bride and groom chose to have four 10 x 10 paintings so that they could either hang them separately in different places or all together. Hanging them together gives you many different options in how they can be hung.

The chargers and centerpieces had a beautiful antique golden look which I used in the green leaves and background of the preserved wedding flower paintings.
This is a sample of the Burgues Script, the font used in the seating chart which you can see in the detail of the stems and vines.
Six 10 x 10 paintings were ordered. Two of them will go to the parents of the bride and groom as a thank you gift.

Holly's bouquet was white peonies and blush and pale peach roses. She looked like such a beautiful China Doll that I wanted a very subtle background for the soft roses.

Holly liked the Burgues Script in their seating chart and requested that being reflected in the paintings.

Shawn and Corey's wedding had both a nautical theme since Corey is in the Coast Guard and a Irish theme with Shawn's only request being Bells of Ireland as part of her bouquet.
The bridesmaids wore champagne dresses with black sashes.
Shawn's shoes were a beautiful shade of teal blue.
So . . . I arched the Bells of Ireland like the arch of swords in their ceremony and used a light metallic champagne background. I added the deep teal vines to mimic her lovely shoes. This painting was done on a 16 x 20 canvas.

We had planted sunflowers in our front yard and Ana came out to enjoy the garden in the apron that I had made for her out of recycled jeans. I had embroidered "Mommy's Little Helper" on the front. I made a small painting from the photo and gave it to her for her birthday.

Sometimes Things Change! Cathy's Callas

Remember these callas that were in the post for a week before I received them? Well, here they are dried and laying on a sheet of paper.

Here they are laid out for final setting and painting on a horizontal 11 x 14 canvas. I sent an email and photo to the married couple. After seeing Jen's Callas painting on a 16 x 20 vertical layout, they decided they wanted the same.

Cathy had a long strand of jewels wrapped around her bouquet and chose to have them incorporated into the painting. She also wanted her wedding colors of eggplant, grey and silver with some sparkle.

These were amazingly hearty Callas. My bride, Cathy, mailed them to me after her wedding but forgot to send them overnight express. They were in the mail for a week and still beautiful. I even had some left in a vase for another week. These photos are a good example of how the color changes on certain flowers when they a dry pressed.
This is a quick layout of the dried eggplant callas from Cathy's bouquet.

The color scheme for the wedding was diamonds, sparkle, silver and deep purple. Cathy was thinking those colors with accents of gray would be pretty in her CurlyArt painting. Also, her wedding flower jewelry will be included in the painting.

It will be fun to see the end result for Cathy's wedding flower painting! She just needs to decide whether the painting will be horizontal or vertical.

To preserve her wedding flowers, Nadia chose a 12 x 12 canvas for her White Roses and Freesias. The lily pad like green leaves are such a nice compliment. She like the idea of having a white ribbon so I added two to represent both her and her new husband.
Here is a photo of Nadia's bouquet when it arrived for me to press. Even all white flowers press well and look pretty against colors that compliment them.

The colors and design from Helen's invitation were the inspiration for the background on her wedding flower painting.
These wedding flowers; lysianthus, roses, orange callas and green/purple hydrangea preserved very nicely and worked well with the background colors taken from the wedding announcement. This was done on a 12x16 gallery wrapped canvas.

When the flowers arrived, I re-cut the stems and immediately put the flowers in fresh water. They consisted of white and yellow daisies, blue carnations, blue baby's breath, small white callas and autumn ferns and blue hydrangea.
They were then photographed and went immediately to the press.

The bride's bouquet was beautiful claret red roses with crystals mimicking dew drops.
Originally the couple wanted their preserved wedding flowers in a horizontal painting. But, they liked the painting vertically as well so they will change it around from time to time.
Claret roses, white star gazer lilies and hydrangeas with ferns make up this royal painting. Crystals from the bouquet were added as dew drops scattered throughout. The two ribbons entwined represent Joe and Kendall on their new journey as a married couple

Victoria wanted a large canvas of 24 x 36 inches. Her bouquet had a beautiful range of flowers with green orchids, purple stock, purple orchids, gardenias and purple mums.
Here are some close up sections of the painting.
Gardenias don't last too long or press well in a regular press. But I managed to save enough of them to use in the painting through another method or pressing.

Mums press well especially if you lay them in individually. The red to purple colored flowers usually turn deeper after pressing.
Orchids are known for not keeping well in a press. They usually turn dark brown. I have my best luck with the purple and green orchids

Cristina was such a pleasure to work with on her wedding flower bouquet painting. She knew exactly what she wanted to capture from her wedding. She chose a 18 x 24 inch canvas. Her flowers were green and white orchids, stephanotis and white roses
The ferns in the painting and the color green are exactly like the ones in their wedding invitation. I thought that the quote was so nice that I included that at the bottom of the painting.

Cristina wanted me to include the crystals from the handle of her bouquet which I used to set off the centers of the stephanotis and to add a crystal flower between the quote.
The bride also wanted some of the lace from her wedding gown in the painting. I chose to set it around the outside edge as an added touch.

He had suggested maybe having the word "Spices" added and left the rest up to my imagination.

I painted this window before Halloween and it sold pretty fast at the Montrose Farmers Market.
All my reverse glass painted windows are sealed on the back and have large eyelet bolts with chain to make for easy hanging.
This is a painting of my mother's cat "Cat Cat" who is in cat heaven now. It hangs under the eves of our neighbor's garage which we see from our back yard.

And this is in memory of my beloved Irish Setter "Showfield's Sweet Joy" (I just called her Joy Dog). She hangs under the eves with Cat Cat.
I love painting Ger aniums on the old windows. People seem to always like them and snatch them right up.

Laura's wedding bouquet consisted of beautiful pink and white peonies but she wanted to add more color to her preserved wedding flower painting.
Laura and Dan liked the design in their wedding invitation and on the stamps they used to mail them out. This design was incorporated into the painting in shades of brown at the bride's request.

Flowers from the center pieces were also pressed and added to the painting to add more color and texture.
The painting is 16 x 20 inches and includes white Roses, green Hydrangeas, pink and white Peonies and Ranunculi and a lovely green filler.

Erin wanted to preserve her wedding flowers on three 8x8 paintings for her and Nic and then give a fourth to her mother as a keepsake of their wedding.
Her wedding flowers were red roses, purple carnations, red gerberas and orange lilies.

The bride wanted the focal flowers to be the red roses. Since red roses dry to a deep burgundy I had to hand paint each petal and dry them before adding them to the canvas.

What started out as an idea for a few favorite Disney characters on Emma's bedroom walls, turned out to be a growing obsession and a joint adventure for the whole family.
Gramama Ruth lent a helping hand filling in the main colors on the characters.
Mom and Dad, Ana & Gene were becoming pretty good at choosing and transferring characters onto the walls.

We ended up having over 65 Disney characters on Emma's bedroom walls!

Carrie and Shawn had a lovely outdoor wedding in Kansas City, MO. They couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Carrie's bouquet was a combination of different shades of purple from mauve roses to deep purple mums, lisianthus and sweet peas. The hydrangeas were very unusual with shades of blue, green and white. This is a great example of wedding flower preservation.

Carrie wore a gorgeous Victorian period dress and with her outdoor celebration I wanted to capture the feeling of the day in their wedding bouquet painting. This painting was done on a

Aimee's wedding bouquet flowers consisted of different shades of pink and peach roses with white hydrangeas. These flowers press well and make for a lovely painting. I placed her flowers on a soft sage green background with a soft yellow/white glow behind them. The stems of the flowers were flowing in soft curves coming out of the water color like background.

These wedding flowers were preserved and created into a painting on a 16 x 20 inch gallery wrapped canvas.

Hand Painted Sun on French Wine Barrel Lid

While driving up in the wine country of northern California I spyed some old oak barrel lids along the road. I thought they would be a great surface to paint different images on so I purchased them and took them home. This was one of the first images that I painted. I am working on California Poppies next.

Alisa's painting is a 12 x 16 done on a cream background at her request. Her flowers were burgundy and orange callas, roses, gerbers and hypericum. The wedding was held outdoors in Branson, MO with all the beautiful fall colors which are depicted in her painting.
With the 1 1/2 inch gallery wrapped canvas the flowers can flow over the front edge and continue on the sides.

Alisa wanted to have a 8 x8 painting done for her sister who was the Maid of Honor in her wedding party.

This wedding bouquet painting was done on a 24" x 36" gallery wrapped canvas. I love the contrast of the lime green orchids and the beautiful shades of purples.

Here are some close-ups of different sections of the painting. Besides the orchids there were gerberas , purple delphiniums and gardenias.

Orchids and gardenias are very difficult to press. They typically come out brown in color. Phaelaenopsis which are the purple ones press well, but cymbidiums like the lime green and other colors turn brown when pressed. I have managed to press these green cymbidiums and apply them to the painting and seal them well. There is no guarantee that they will remain their normal color.

Red Geraniums Acrylic on Canvas

My cousin saw a painting she loved of red geraniums that she wanted to hang in her new kitchen. So I drew the image on canvas and changed the background to black like she requested and then created a different pot. This is a 15x30 canvas with a 1 1/2 inch depth done in acrylic and sealed with a satin base acrylic.

Amy & Ryan wanted a set of four 8x8 paintings to group together or apart. Since they planned on hanging them in their baby girl's room, it was fun to make them a little whimsical but using the colors of the room, pink, green and white.

I used lime green spider mums for grass with cockscomb. Pink gerberas were placed on each chair at the wedding in memory of Amy's mother and then later collected and put in a large vase for the reception.

Erinn's mother, Helene, wanted to give her daughter this painting as a gift not only with her wedding flowers but pieces of lace from her daughter's dress. She also wanted the pearls that were wrapped around her bouquet depicted in the painting. This is a 11x14 painting.

Helene also requested a 8x8 painting for herself with lace from her daughter's dress as well as the navy blue fabric from her own dress.

Aaron and Mandy's Wedding Flowers

These paintings were such a joy to do because of the story behind the wedding flowers of Mandy and Aaron.
Aaron wrote to me in July of 2009 telling me that the company that was to preserve his wife's wedding flowers closed, kept their money, but most importantly never returned her bouquet. I collected the same flowers that were in her bouquet, dry pressed them and turned them into a 16x20 painting.
Aaron wanted to surprise Mandy with a 8x8 canvas with a photo of Mandy and her grandfather.
He also asked if I could incorporate the bubbles that were captured in the photos from their wedding, which I have done in both paintings.

Hydrangeas Preserved

Terrah and Andrew were married October 1, 2008 under the guidance of TwoFoot Creative. The bouquet was made up entirely of hydrangeas. The bride chose a 12x12 canvas so I chose to do one hydrangea made up of the three colors in her bouquet to look like her invitation.

How to pack a wedding bouquet in transit

Forget-Me-Not Florist in Toluca Lake, CA made this packing box for Linda's wedding bouquet so that when they brought it to me it would stay cool and not get damaged. There is a water reservoir in the square cardboard box which is lined with florist wrap. Great idea!

This is a good way to bring your bouquet to me if you or were delivering it in person.
If you were shipping your bouquet you would use an ice pack instead of water.

Linda & Andrew were married on December 16, 2009 and asked me to preserve the wedding bouquet flowers. They are in press now for a couple of months. I am looking forward to creating a wonderful preservation of their wedding flowers.

Susana's wedding bouquet was made out of paper, like Origami, and she asked me to paint her bouquet from photographs which she later gave to her parents as a gift. I added a suggestion of her veil that she wore in her wedding.
This is a 12x12 painting on 1 1/2" deep canvas and was done as a gift to the bride's parents.

Celia and Bobby's Bouquet Paintings

Celia and Bobby were married on August 29th of this year. Celia chose to do a painting with her bouquet from CurlyArt for their home as well as one for her mother as a gift! I think they make phenomenal parent gifts at just $100 each with another order, it is just so much more unique than an engraved picture frame…

Celia’s painting (top) is 12×12 inches, while her mom’s painting (above) is an 8×8. The flowers used include both Celia’s bouquet as well as one of her bridesmaids’, bringing in lilies, roses, stephanotis, orchids, and berry leaves to the mix.

Heather's Bouquet Painting

Heather was married on August 8th of this year. She had her bouquet sent off after the wedding to be preserved - and I just love the final result (so does she)! The green filler especially pops off the canvas, really showcasing her beautiful flowers.

Rachel's Invitation Inspired Bouquet Painting

Rachel and Daniel were married on August 2nd of this year at Addison Oaks, and Rachel's wedding coordinator TwoFoot Creative shipped her bouquet to me to be turned into this beautiful painting! The canvas is 11×14 inches.

Renae's Bouquet Painting

Renae loves the color turquoise, so of course the background color of her bouquet painting had to include that color! Her bouquet was pressed over an 8-week time period, and the all-white flowers create a very elegant look on this canvas.

The flowers used in this painting include stephanotis, lilies, roses, lisianthus, and orchids. It is 11×14 inches in size, with the painting continuing around the sides so that no framing is necessary!

Emily & Andrew's invitation and bouquet painting!

Emily and Andrew were married on June 27th, and decided to have Emily’s bouquet turned into not only a painting for them to enjoy, but also two parent paintings that they will give as Christmas gifts to each of their parents!

I used a 16×20 canvas for Emily and Andrew’s painting, incorporating the invitation, paper used to wrap the invitation, as well as her flowers. For the parent paintings, 8×8 inch canvases were used.

Nesha & Levar's bouquet and invitation painting!

Courtney & Jason's Painting

Courtney and Jason were married on June 19th, 2009. Her painting was one I worked a long time on before I thought it was just right! There was a precarious balance between the pink of the gerbera daisies in the center and bringing that pink in elsewhere in the painting.

The flowers from her bouquet and a bridesmaid bouquet (to bring in more color) included the gerbera daisies, hydrangea, and roses.

This painting is 18x24 inches. One of my favorite elements when using roses is searching for the odd-shaped petals. To the right here, you can see two hearts that I found in the center of a rose!

How NOT to have your bouquet made...

I recently got a bouquet in the mail, and when taken apart, this is what remained. Needless to say, the flowers did not arrive in superb condition since they had not been in contact with water since the morning of the bride's wedding 4 days earlier.

When you discuss your flowers with the florist for your wedding, please let them know that you will be preserving them. Ask how it will be wrapped, and try to get them to use the entire stems of flowers so you can easily keep them in water all day and until it needs to be shipped out. Had this bouquet contained water-loving flowers like hydrangea, there would have been no salvaging it at all.

Molly and David's Spring Bouquet

Molly's bouquet had the most beautiful blues and yellows in it, I was very excited to get to work on it!

There were roses, lilies, tulips, button mums and freesia in her bouquet.

The button mums faded quite a bit during the process, so they were enhanced with some metallic paint to make them pop a bit in the painting.

The background of the painting was done in blue with some neutral ribbons. This will hang in Molly and Dave's kitchen so colors were chosen to compliment that room.

This painting is 12x16 inches.

Salma's Bouquet Painting

Salma wanted her bouquet painting to be very neutral, emphasizing the blush pink from the orchids in her bouquet. She loved the ribbon effect from one of my previous paintings, so that became the background here as well.

The other flowers used in the painting are roses and peonies. White flowers do tend to antique when pressed, which adds a lot of depth to the paintings and for Salma, it helped bring out the neutral colors she wanted incorporated.

This painting was done on a 16x20 inch canvas, and will hang horizontally.

Special Occasion Paintings

I have been asked a few times about paintings from flowers that are not wedding bouquets. Any flowers can be pressed, so of course this can be done!

The painting above was done as a thank you gift on an square canvas. The flowers were taken from a standard store-bought bouquet!

Other ideas for preservation include prom flowers, baby shower, funeral flowers as a sympathy gift, "just because" flowers, garden paintings etc.

A Bridal Show

I would love to get more Southern California business, so I have been going to a few bridal shows to increase my exposure closer to home! They were both first-time shows however, so the turnout was less than desirable...

Fortunately, I have also been networking with various ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) members and vendors, which has helped get the name out there! I attended the meeting in Orange County in July, and will be visiting the LA meeting on the 17th of this month.

I love my out of state clients, but the advantage to those that are local is that the flowers can be dropped off to my studio! This lends itself to much fresher looking flowers, and a significant savings on shipping costs.

Lorraine's Invitation Inspired Painting

Lorraine had a wonderful "birds and branches" themed wedding, and shared all her storyboard ideas and invitation graphics with me. She wanted the painting to mimic her RSVP card, using her bouquet flowers as the buds and flowers on the branches! I love the result, which is a 16x20 canvas painting to be hung horizontally!

Here is a detailed photo of the flowers, which are all pressed as single petals and then reassembled as whole flowers or buds onto the canvas and sealed into the painting. I add details that are not preserved when pressed, such as the center of the flowers and a few leaves (some bouquets do have real leaves I can use!).

Surprise Painting from Mother to Daughter

Since this painting is waiting to become a Christmas surprise, I cannot post the bride's name! Her mother took her bouquet after the wedding, and shipped it to me to press and preserve on canvas. She had an absolutely gorgeous array of flowers and colors to use!

This is a 20x20 canvas. The flowers used include roses, freesia, stock, and hydrangea which were blended together on the canvas to create a "secret garden" type feel. I can't wait to hear how the bride likes her painting!

Wedding Gift Centerpiece Painting

This painting was done using not a bouquet, but a centerpiece that a guest took home from a wedding to surprise the bride with later! I love the idea of gifting someone a painting!

Ivy leaves, lilies, roses, and a variety of filler flowers make up this painting. The leaves are something you don't see often in bouquets, making it a very unique feature to this 11x14 canvas!

If you like the idea of sending in a centerpiece - make sure to disassemble the arrangement before shipping! Pulling the flowers together in a bouquet-like fashion will keep the flowers from turning as much during the shipping process and will also cut down on shipping costs.

My daughter is a wedding planner in Michigan, and also how I got started in the bouquet preservation business. She wanted to do something different with her bouquet after her 2007 wedding, and this was the result!

To test out the idea of using invitations, I started with one of hers - and the result is pictured to the right. Hers was a letterpress invitation, and the thicker paper used in that style invitation is definitely the thickest consistency I would want to use in a painting!

Invitation paintings make great keepsakes for parents and grandparents as well, and can be added to your order for $100 for an 8x8 size. canvas!

Natalee's White Bouquet

Natalee was married in December, and had an all-white bouquet for her winter jewel-toned wedding. She wanted to incorporate colors from her wedding (green and eggplant) into the painting, with just a hint of gold.

This painting is a 12x12, and the flowers used are roses, ranunculus, calla lilies, and a few leaves Due to the nature of their consistency, ferns were painted in rather than pressed.

Angela's Invitation and Bouquet Painting

Angela is not a flower person, so she didn't start out interested in preserving her bouquet on canvas. However, when she saw that I also do paintings incorporating invitations, she had to have one!

Angela's painting is a 12x12 canvas. Her flowers consisted on white callas, the palest of pink roses, and several leaves (some of which were too big to include on the canvas!).

Sample Painting for Jacob Maarse

This painting was done as a sample to hang in the wedding meeting room at Jacob Maarse in Pasadena.

This was done on a 18x24 canvas, using pale pink, magenta, and yellow roses with filler and leaves.

One of the ways I can keep my costs at an affordable level, is by using extra pressed flowers from bouquets to create sample paintings.

My next sample will incorporate some wonderful banana and monstera leaves!

Tiffany's Callas

Calla lilies are some of the harder flowers to press, as they shrink in size and do change color a bit. This painting is an 11x14, and was created to look like the flowers were growing from the bottom of the canvas. Some of the shimmer was done by the florist to add some glitz to Tiffany's bouquet, and the rest was added so that the rest of the painting was consistent with that!

Laurel's Bouquet Painting

Laurel's bouquet painting was done on a 16x20 canvas using a pale, neutral background. She also had a painting done for her parents, which included a photo of her and her husband (see the post below).

The flowers in Laurel's bouquet consisted of roses, dahlias, peonies, stock, and freesia.

The variety in both style and color made for a very vibrant combination!

Her actual bouquet is pictured here as well, to give you an idea of how the bouquet is transformed once pressed and sealed onto the canvas.

Pressing takes on average 6 weeks, but depends upon the amount of humidity in the air at the time as well as the type of flowers you have selected for your bouquet.

Laurel's Parent Painting

Laurel was my first California bride! This painting was done on an 11x14 canvas using their save the date in addition to her bouquet flowers. This size and style make great parent gifts or thank-you's to other people who played a part in your wedding day!

Stock, roses, freesia and peonies are used here with a neutral background. When a photograph is involved, you don't want the background to be very busy!

Terrah's Hydrangea Bouquet

Terrah sent in a gorgeous bouquet of white and blue hydrangea. She wanted the painting to look more like a bouquet than a landscape or something abstract, so I focused the majority of the flowers in this way.

Hydrangea are a finicky flower - they wilt VERY easily unless they're in water, so some of them did turn naturally during the shipping process. They are pressed as individual smaller flowers (one stem contains dozens!) and then re-assembled here to create the bouquet look.

This is a 12x12 painting, and can be hung from the side or from the corner.

Aimee's Bouquet Painting

Aimee's painting is probably my most popular to date. She also sent in a bridesmaid bouquet to have more options for the painting in terms of color - this is especially a good idea if your entire bouquet is going to be white!

The flowers were multiple shades of pink roses, white roses, and white hydrangea. Aimee wanted her invitation style to be incorporated, which is emphasized in the swirls of the painting and style in general.

The size of this painting is 18x24 inches.
